SGX FX Widens Aladdin Link as Buy-Side FX Volumes Hit $190.2 Billion
SGX FX widened its Aladdin link so shared clients can trade via BidFX inside BlackRock's platform, after daily volume rose 33.1% to $190.2 billion.

Execution notes
- SGX FX average daily volume rose 33.1% year over year to $190.2 billion in the 12 months to June.
- The BidFX operating company nearly tripled operating profit to $21.9 million in the year to June 2025.
- Jean-Philippe Malé became SGX FX chief executive in April 2025 after co-founding BidFX.
- Deutsche Bank's HausFX entered Aladdin on February 9; Adroit Trading Technologies followed on September 1.
- SGX FX connected BidFX and MaxxTrader users to CME's EBS Market and FX Spot+ venues in February.
SGX FX, the currency arm of Singapore Exchange, widened its link to BlackRock's Aladdin platform on Thursday, letting shared clients trade through BidFX, the SGX FX execution system, from inside the portfolio platform. The announcement lands on top of a 33.1% jump in SGX FX average daily volume to $190.2 billion for the 12 months to June, disclosed in August.
Aladdin is the software many asset managers use to run portfolios, risk and order management. Those firms form the client base SGX FX has been building since Singapore Exchange took full control of BidFX in 2020. The UK entity was later renamed SGX FX Systems, though the BidFX brand remains.
The financials justify the push. The UK company operating BidFX nearly tripled operating profit to $21.9 million in the year to June 2025, according to Companies House accounts. Net revenue at the SGX FX unit rose 12% over the same 12-month period.
What does the deeper integration change?
According to the announcement, the widened link builds on connectivity already in place between the two platforms. The companies assert the integration should reduce operational friction and improve access to liquidity, automation and price discovery across a range of FX products. Those outcomes are vendor assertions, not yet measured results — no volume or cost figures accompanied the claim.
Jean-Philippe Malé, chief executive of SGX FX since April 2025 and BidFX co-founder, said institutional investors increasingly want FX execution "to connect more seamlessly with the systems they use." Kamya Somasundaram, global head of Aladdin enterprise partnerships at BlackRock, said clients were asking for closer ties between their investment and execution workflows.
For buy-side desks, the practical question is what changes in the workflow: order flow originates in Aladdin, and execution now runs through BidFX without leaving the platform, cutting a hop between the order management and execution layers.
A pattern of 2025 tie-ups
The Aladdin deal follows two earlier connections this year:
- January: UAE broker ADSS joined SGX FX as both a market maker and a buy-side participant, extending the venue's EMEA reach.
- February: SGX FX connected BidFX and MaxxTrader users to CME Group's EBS Market and FX Spot+ venues.
- October 2025: BBVA set up a distribution engine for Latin American currencies on BidFX, adding price makers to feed the flow.
Aladdin's expanding execution roster
SGX FX joins a growing list of banks and vendors already plugged into BlackRock's platform:
- Deutsche Bank brought its HausFX FX-as-a-service suite into Aladdin on February 9, covering currency trades tied to cross-border securities purchases in developed, emerging and restricted markets.
- Adroit Trading Technologies, a New York execution management vendor spanning fixed income, currencies and OTC derivatives, announced a multi-year Aladdin partnership on September 1.
- Tradeweb staged its credit-side integration, first displaying pricing data inside Aladdin, then opening its AllTrade liquidity network to Aladdin users in December 2023.
The pattern points to consolidation of execution venues around a small number of buy-side front ends. With SGX FX posting double-digit volume growth and Aladdin aggregating execution providers, the question for competing FX venues is whether distribution through portfolio platforms becomes table stakes.
