Execution notes

  • Apollo launched daily pricing across its $850bn credit business on 30 September 2026.
  • Over 5,000 ICE IDs created since the March 2026 ICE Private Credit Intelligence launch.
  • Rowan says custody and settlement for private credit will start in 2027, backed by roughly $350m of spend over 24 months.
  • Apollo's secondary credit desk, launched in 2024, will have traded more than $40bn by year-end.
  • Q3 record fee-related earnings of $802m, up 23% year-over-year, on $1.07 trillion total AUM.

Apollo started daily pricing across its entire $850bn credit business on 30 September 2026, and its chairman Marc Rowan says custody and settlement for private credit follow in 2027. That is the concrete roadmap the firm laid out on its third-quarter results call on 3 November 2026: give private assets a price, an identifier, a trading venue and post-trade plumbing that look like the public markets.

What has actually shipped?

Three pieces are live today. Daily pricing covers direct lending, asset-backed finance, multi-credit and opportunistic credit vehicles. The build follows June's launch of daily pricing across Apollo's investment-grade product suite. Pricing runs on Apollo's internal methodology, benchmarked to public market data.

Second, identifiers. In March 2026 Apollo partnered with Intercontinental Exchange to launch ICE Private Credit Intelligence. That produced ICE IDs — unique asset identifiers — plus analytics and independent pricing on private assets. Over 5,000 ICE IDs exist so far, and Rowan expects other firms to adopt them. The workflow payoff is direct: an ICE ID lets securities flow through the existing systems and operations of large asset managers without expensive intermediated structures.

Third, liquidity. Apollo set up a dedicated secondary trading desk in 2024. Rowan said it will have traded more than $40bn by the end of this year, with large banks now entering and providing liquidity.

What does the pricing push change?

John Zito, co-president of Apollo Asset Management, said investors increasingly expect a consistent experience across portfolios. "That requires more timely pricing information, standardized data and the infrastructure to support more efficient market making," Zito said. "Daily pricing is another step in that evolution."

Rowan's argument on feasibility leans on a public-market statistic: only 7% of investment grade bonds trade $1m or more every day, so more than 90% of that market is valued with model estimates. "Provided we make the necessary investment in data and systems, we see this as an incredible unlock," he said. "Those who said this could not be done simply don't understand."

State Street is on the same track. On 28 October 2026 it announced a daily NAV operating model for certain private markets strategies supporting Apollo's credit expansion. Chief product officer Donna Milrod said the next phase of private markets will be defined as much by infrastructure as by investment opportunity.

Who is the buyer?

Rowan framed the market shift bluntly: "In short, investors are in search of alternatives," driven by public markets becoming concentrated, correlated and indexed. The industry once served one client — the institutional alternatives bucket. Five more have arrived: individuals, insurance companies, traditional asset managers, 401(k) schemes and defined-contribution pensions. Rowan said each is roughly the same size as the original client base.

Those buyers run public-market operating systems. "We are putting in place the foundation necessary to serve them where they are," Rowan said. Preqin, owned by BlackRock, forecasts private markets exceeding $34 trillion in AUM by 2031.

What will it cost?

Rowan put a number on the build: roughly $350m of planned expenses over the next 24 months, with new businesses developed primarily in Austin. Apollo will write off legacy software and eliminate older systems as it updates its technology stack.

"Our goal is to make buying and selling of private assets as easy and familiar as possible," Rowan said. "We will start with credit in 2027." Jim Zelter, president of Apollo Global Management, added: "If we are providing solutions, we will get a lion's share of the economics."

What about AI-related origination?

Apollo's origination focuses on capital imbalances in two sectors: power and chips. Zelter noted America has financed ten great capex cycles in 200 years — canals through shale — most between 2% and 3% of GDP. This cycle differs because the spenders are scaled investment-grade franchises with high margins. "My rule is simple: never take equity-like risk for debt-like returns," Zelter said. The high-grade capital solutions franchise has originated more than $150bn across 200 transactions to date. Preqin sees infrastructure AUM reaching $2.74 trillion by 2031, 9.8% annualized growth.

The numbers behind the strategy

Q3 delivered record fee-related earnings of $802m, up 23% year-over-year, and record spread-related earnings of $909m. Total AUM hit $1.07 trillion on $53bn of Q3 inflows and $270bn over twelve months. Origination hit a record $114bn in the quarter and $356bn over the year; 98% was debt and more than 80% investment grade, as Apollo deliberately moves up the quality curve amid elevated risk.

Custody and settlement partnerships, naming the firms involved, are the next disclosure desks should watch.
