Execution notes

  • Incorrect order fills and delays hit IG Securities Japan for about two hours on October 29, between roughly 3:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. JST.
  • The broker resumed execution processing and is reviewing affected trades; it has not disclosed order or client counts.
  • The incident follows IG client login problems across multiple platforms in August 2026, later restored.
  • XTB's platform failure affected around 0.4% of its 25 million CFD positions; Interactive Brokers restored access within an hour.
  • OANDA Japan delayed withdrawals after a cyberattack on hosting provider GMO Internet Group potentially exposed MetaTrader credentials.

IG Securities Japan has resumed order execution processing after incorrect order fills and execution delays disrupted trading for roughly two hours on October 29, between approximately 3:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Japan Standard Time. The broker is now identifying affected clients and reviewing their trades, and plans to contact individual clients if further action is required.

Some orders executed at prices different from those intended, while other executions expired without completing, according to a summary of the incident circulated on social media. IG Securities Japan has not disclosed how many orders or clients were affected, or the extent of the impact. That gap matters for desks and retail clients alike: without an order count or a fill-price deviation range, the cost of the incident to clients cannot be measured, only asserted as under review.

What does the incident change for affected clients?

The mechanism is straightforward. During the two-hour window, IG's execution engine processed some orders at prices other than the intended level and delayed others. The broker has restarted processing and is matching trade records against intended prices to find the affected accounts. Where it finds discrepancies, it will contact clients directly to discuss remediation.

The review process leaves clients in a passive position. IG has set no public deadline for completing the review, named no compensation framework, and quantified no exposure. Clients who traded during the window and have not been contacted hold an open question rather than a resolved one.

Is this an isolated event at IG?

No. The October fills incident follows login problems reported by IG clients across multiple platforms in August 2026. IG attributed those problems to a technical issue that primarily affected client logins, and later confirmed that access had been restored.

Two platform-level failures at the same broker within three months shift the question from a single fault to resilience. For clients, the August event blocked access; the October event let access through but corrupted the output — fills at wrong prices. The second failure mode is harder to detect from the client side, because an order that fills at a wrong price still looks like a completed trade on the platform.

How does this fit the wider pattern of broker outages?

Other brokers have faced comparable technical disruptions this year, each with different failure points:

  • Interactive Brokers experienced login problems linked to a technical issue at certain Asia-Pacific data centres. The broker said access was restored within an hour.
  • XTB suffered a platform failure that prevented some clients from modifying or closing CFD positions. The broker said the disruption affected around 0.4% of its 25 million positions and attributed it to a technical limitation in data transfers between its trading engine and its web and mobile platforms.
  • OANDA Japan temporarily delayed withdrawals as a precaution following a cyberattack on a third-party hosting provider, GMO Internet Group. The provider said unauthorised programs had been installed in customer server environments, potentially exposing stored MetaTrader login credentials.

The comparison is instructive. Interactive Brokers lost access for an hour; XTB quantified its exposure at 0.4% of positions and named the transfer layer at fault; OANDA Japan pointed to a named third party and a specific credential risk. IG Securities Japan, by contrast, has so far disclosed a time window and a review process, with no order count, client count or impact measure.

For execution desks and retail clients, the sequence of incidents across IG, Interactive Brokers, XTB and OANDA Japan in 2026 makes vendor infrastructure a live counterparty risk, not a background assumption. IG said it will contact affected clients individually if further action is required, and any disclosure of the affected order count would give the market the first measurable figure for the incident's scale.
