Execution notes

  • Deutsche Börse now offers 24/7 trading of DAX 40 equities via 360X's regulated MTF segment using RfQ execution
  • Xetra core hours remain Monday to Friday 09:00–17:30 CET; T7 retail session runs 08:00–22:00 CET
  • Off-hours 360X closing prices will not influence Xetra opening auctions
  • 360X trades settle bilaterally into existing Clearstream accounts
  • Activation is available now through the Deutsche Börse Member Section

Deutsche Börse Group has introduced 24/7 trading coverage for DAX 40 equities, routing off-hours execution through 360X, its affiliated regulated MTF (multilateral trading facility), while Xetra keeps institutional benchmark liquidity during core European hours. The move makes the group what it calls a first step toward an always-on European market infrastructure for traditional blue-chip stocks.

The division of labor between the two venues is explicit. 360X facilitates Request-for-Quote (RfQ) execution — a protocol where participants request quotes from counterparties rather than hitting a central order book — during overnight hours and weekends. Xetra continues to run its institutional benchmark market Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30 CET, alongside extended retail service on the T7 platform from 08:00 to 22:00 CET.

What does this change for execution workflows?

For desks, the practical answer is scope, not replacement. Standard DAX 40 instruments trade exclusively via 360X's RfQ module during off-hours, and core Xetra processes remain entirely unchanged. Standard auction cycles persist. Off-hours closing prices formed on 360X will not dictate opening prices or affect opening auctions on Xetra — a design choice that insulates benchmark price discovery from thin overnight prints.

Onboarding is administrative, not structural. Existing Deutsche Börse clients can activate 360X through a simplified process in the Deutsche Börse Member Section, the exchange's client portal. Post-trade connections stay in place: all 360X trades settle bilaterally into participants' existing Clearstream accounts, Deutsche Börse's central securities depository. Clients therefore trade conventional DAX ISINs, settled in euro, without new custody or settlement arrangements.

How the exchange frames it

"Deutsche Börse Group aims to be the first European Financial Market Infrastructure to enable a 24/7 offering of traditional blue-chip equities," said Eric Leupold, Head of Cash Market at Deutsche Börse Group.

"By enabling the DAX 40 constituents on 360X, we are safely bridging deep, regulated liquidity pools with the flexibility of round-the-clock availability, ensuring our clients can manage risk whenever global markets move; all while preserving the absolute integrity of the core Xetra benchmark cycles," said Carlo Kölzer, Head of Digital and FX at Deutsche Börse Group and Co-CEO of 360X.

Mandated design, asserted ambition

Two categories of claims sit side by side in the announcement. What is verifiable in the rule set: 360X operates the RfQ module for overnight and weekend sessions; Xetra hours, auction cycles and opening price formation are untouched; settlement runs through existing Clearstream accounts.

What is asserted rather than measured: the ambition to be the first European FMI with a 24/7 blue-chip equities offering, and the characterization of the combined model as a significant step toward always-on European market infrastructure. The announcement carries no volume figures, no participant counts and no stated compliance deadlines, since activation is voluntary and administrative for existing members.

The open questions for buy-side and sell-side desks concern liquidity quality, not plumbing. RfQ execution concentrates price formation in negotiated quotes rather than a public order book, so spreads during weekend sessions will depend on the number of quoting counterparties that activate. The exchange has not disclosed minimum quoting obligations or minimum quote sizes for the 360X segment.

Deutsche Börse says the dual model is available now, with activation open to existing clients through the Member Section. Whether weekend RfQ volume in DAX names justifies overnight staffing and risk limits will be measurable only once the first sessions print.
