CMC Markets Retires CMC Connect Name in Institutional Rebrand
CMC Markets is retiring the CMC Connect name, rebranding its institutional arm after record £46.3bn client assets and a May 2026 prime services launch.

Execution notes
- CMC Markets rebrands CMC Connect as CMC Markets Institutional; services to existing clients unchanged.
- Record client assets of £46.3 billion reported in July.
- Prime Services launched through CMC Connect in May 2026, covering cash and synthetic prime brokerage.
- CMC Markets Connect brand was introduced in January 2021; former site listed 150+ institutional partners.
- Trading technology partnership with Westpac in Australia aims to expand the customer base.
CMC Markets is retiring the CMC Connect name after nearly five years, rebranding its institutional arm as CMC Markets Institutional and folding the business-to-business unit back under the group's main brand. The change follows a period of measured expansion: record client assets of £46.3 billion reported in July, a trading technology partnership with Westpac in Australia aimed at widening the customer base, and the launch of Prime Services capabilities through CMC Connect in May 2026.
The rebrand is a naming exercise, not a service redesign. CMC Markets said the change would not affect the services available to existing institutional clients and partners — a distinction buy-side and sell-side desks will want confirmed in writing before any connectivity or counterparty documentation is updated.
What does the rebranded business cover?
CMC Markets Institutional will span trading, investing and wealth solutions. Its stated components include:
- multi-asset liquidity;
- trading technology;
- investment infrastructure;
- access to public and private markets.
The client set remains banks, brokerages, family offices, hedge funds and dealing desks (in-house desks that quote prices and manage client flow directly). Delivery mechanisms include API connectivity and white-label solutions, which let partners offer trading through their own branded platforms. The former CMC Connect website reported more than 150 institutional partners.
Why did CMC split the brands in the first place?
CMC Markets introduced the CMC Markets Connect brand in January 2021 to separate its institutional business from its retail offering. At the time, the firm framed the split as a reflection of increased investment in institutional services — liquidity provision, pricing and execution among them.
The 2021 partition has now run its course. Five years of build-out, capped by the prime services launch, appear to have made a standalone sub-brand redundant rather than necessary. Unified branding typically signals a cross-sell ambition: one name behind retail, institutional and wealth lines.
What did the prime services launch add?
In May 2026, CMC Markets launched Prime Services capabilities through CMC Connect. The offering covers cash and synthetic prime brokerage (financing and securities lending bundled for hedge fund clients), financing, multi-asset execution and post-trade support.
Access spans cash equities, exchange-traded funds and synthetic single-stock exposure, delivered through direct market access and smart order routing — the automated logic that decides how and where child orders are sent across venues. For execution desks, the relevant question is whether routing behavior, venue access and financing terms remain identical post-rebrand; CMC Markets says services are unchanged, and only operational continuity over coming quarters will verify that claim.
What is mandated versus asserted?
Nothing here is a regulatory mandate — this is a voluntary corporate action. The measurable facts are the £46.3 billion client asset figure from July, the January 2021 brand launch, the May 2026 prime services rollout, and the 150-plus institutional partner count from the former CMC Connect site. The assertion, from CMC Markets itself, is that no client-facing service will change under the new name.
The takeaway in plain words: the name on the door changed; the plumbing behind it, by the firm's own account, did not. Institutions tied into CMC liquidity, API or white-label arrangements now watch whether that holds.
